National Old Age Pension Scheme: It is a naked fact that the elderly citizens in India are facing severe health and economic issues. Moreover, according to a statistical study, by the year 2050, the elderly will constitute nearly a quarter of the Indian population. To support such a group of citizens, the government of India implemented the National Old Age Pension Scheme. It is a non-contributory scheme that delivers monthly payments for residents or to refugees above 60 years old.
In India, Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) is handling and assisting the National Pension System (NPS) along with the Atal Pension Yojana (APY).To ensure the pension is going to the right people, the applicant needs to submit correct identification details. As a part of decentralization through the Indian Constitutional Amendment Act 1993, the implementation of Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension (NOAP), which were handled by the Revenue Department of State Government, has been transferred to Local Self Govt Institutions as per the revised rules declared through the Government Order number GO(P)47/95 dated 13/12/1995.

Eligibility Criteria National Old Age Pension
- Applicant must be destitute.
- No person shall be eligible for the pension if he/she is in receipt of any other Social Welfare
pensions. - No one of there to look after him/her.
- No one shall be qualified if he/she resorts to habitual begging.
- No person shall be eligible for the pension if he/she is admitted to a poor home.
- Age of 60 years or higher.
- Applicant must have a family annual income of or less than Rs.100000/-.
- He/She must reside within the state of Kerala for a continuous period of not less than three years.
- He/she must be applied at the local body where the person is residing.

How to Apply National Pension scheme
Fill out the form carefully and submit the application for the pension to the concerned Grama Panchayat/ Municipality/ Corporation Secretary. Grama Panchayat Enquiry should be executed by the VEO or the officer appointed by the secretary. In Municipality or Corporation Enquiry should be performed by the Revenue Inspector or the officer nominated by the secretary. The Enquiry should be completed within 45 days after submitting the application and the beneficiary list should be finalized within 45 days on receipt of the application after enquiry. Any plea should be raised within 30 days to the concerned district collector and the Government can take the right conclusion against the appeal. Once approved, the applicant will be eligible to get the pension from the first week of next month onwards on the basis of the availability of funds.
