Driving licenses are now available through the National Portal of Sarathi’s mobile portal. Sarathi is making application, learning and licensing exams to obtain license information from anywhere in the country.
Sarathi National Portal for License Information was created as a sub-division of the single carrier telephone system which includes information on vehicles in the country. Applications for the Learners’ License have been accepted at the Ernakulam RT Office through Sarathi. When applied through the Motor Vehicle Department’s current website, they will be automatically routed.

Applicants should go to the site and select the state and click on the New Learners License sub-menu. Fill in the required information. SMS will be received when the application is completed. After that, you need to upload certificates and photo showing birth date, address, fitness and viewing ability. The fee amount must then be transferred. You can choose the exam date and time from the slot booking exchange menu. Once all these procedures are completed, the printout of the Learner’s Examination Order will be available.
This is to be taken for the examination. Learners should also hold a mobile phone during exams. The PIN number to login to the exam window of the Sarathi portal is available on the mobile phone. After verifying the online application, the PIN number is sent from the office. If the application is rejected the application status of the applicant can fill the shortcomings through the menu and re-appear for the exam. The applicant can print out the Learner’s License and start driving.
New Rules for Driving License
The expiration date of the license for transport vehicles is 5 years.
Hazardous License – 3 years.
The term of license for non transport vehicles is as follows.
a) Period of age up to 40 years if taken before 30 years
b) For those between 30 and 50 years – 10 years
c) For persons between 50 and 55 years – up to 60 years
d) Above 55 – 5 years each
The waiver (grace period) no longer applies for one month after expiry, meaning that the license is void after the expiration date.
In addition, renewals may be issued one year prior to the expiration of the license.
The test will be renewed only after one year has elapsed.
The Department of Motor Vehicles is also planning to make its license renewal completely online.
